Animation is a technique, not a genre

Interested in the technique of photographing successive drawings or positions of puppets or models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence. Here is an article about animation and it’s scope in India by Aditi.

Choosing a stream after 10th is a big deal in India. Nothing other than marks are considered the sole stream selection criteria, but at times people scoring the highest marks in streams like science and commerce are best in doing creative art work. It is a study of its own and many of these people choose to do something different rather than following the crowd, their art makes them different and they choose to be different.

Although, not having so much public appreciation as IIT’s and medical colleges. The course of fine arts has a fairly high scope in India and people are more likely to follow their instincts rather going with a flow and we know that only dead fishes go with a flow. And for people who realize their passion a little late in their life that what they actually want to do can apply for it as a part-time student but if you want to take it as a full time student then diplomas and degrees are provided on the basis of entrance exam

The course of fine arts provides variety of streams. And any university for the admission in this particular field demands skills.  A portfolio is a collection of your best work to showcase your current skills. You will need to submit a portfolio with your application to the school. For performing art majors, expect to have to audition for a spot in the program.

The primary degrees available under the fine arts umbrella are:

  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Animation
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Dance
  • Film and television
  • Musical Theatre
  • Theatre

And different careers can be drawn out of these primary degrees available under fine arts such as:

  • Sculptor
  • Illustrator
  • Photographer
  • Artist in an ad agency
  • Actor
  • Animator
  • Museum curator

The bachelor in fine arts (BFA) is like having a B.Tech degree with the field of specialization. Likewise BFA provides a 4 year course with any of the above specialization

And if we talk about any one type of specialization, say animation. Work opportunities for quality animators and related professionals like graphic designer, multimedia developer and game developer, character designers, key frame animators, 3D modellers, layout artists etc exists in following sectors at large-

  • Advertising
  • Online and Print News Media
  • Film & Television
  • Cartoon production
  • Theatre
  • Video Gaming
  • E-learning

And there are many companies which recruit the students in masses and there are some companies those only look for the quality of cream in any university which is providing them candidates.

The best animation studios we know in the world are Pixar, Walt Disney, Framestore. These companies are known worldwide and make the best use of their employees’ creativeness. But this is surely a huge starting point for people.

And if we have to talk in small terms for people in India. There are many companies providing good opportunities. Many of these companies recruit trainees and give them resources to learn and grow such as

And there are many more companies which give high opportunities and scope for the new budding minds. As seen above, the variety of projects these companies had done, this course is not at all under-rated and this is only about the animation stream of fine arts. There is variety of courses and the scope is high enough. These companies only require skills and work ethics in their employees and trainees and these are well learned in institutes and universities. Many universities provide fine arts course and best of them are:

  • MS University of Baroda – Fine Arts Faculty.
  • Banaras Hindu University – Faculty of Visual Arts.
